The game of bingo evolved from the Lo Giuco de Lotto which was the Italian lottery game that was developed in 1530. The game evolved into two different versions, the British version and the American version. The British version is based on ninety numbers and is played in land-based bingo halls in Great Britain, Ireland and Australia. The American or 75 number version predominated elsewhere worldwide. The British version is played on a rectangular grid called a ticket that has nine columns and three rows with five numbers on each line.
